Marigolds

Sweet marigolds bloom

To the eyes pretty to see

But foul to the nose

That’s why it’s good to plant marigolds in vegetable gardens – insects don’t like their smell!

  I remember planting them in front of my first vegetable garden but I had no idea that I planted the giant variety and they overshadowed everything in the garden.

I grew up with those surrounding my house. I never knew they were a natural mosquito repellent until a few years ago. I just thought my parents liked them. 🙂

  I knew that insects that like vegetable patches don’t like them but I didn’t know that they repelled mosquitoes.

    Yeah. They even make a spray from the flowers for it. So people can have a natural repellent.
