….blogging shouldn’t be this difficult
I’ve always sung the praises of blogging on WordPress. A couple of years ago, I tried setting up an account on another blogging site and didn’t have much success. My sisters and I were the only people who read it, which at the time was fine but not very satisfying. When I started with WordPress I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was and I started to garner a following pretty quickly.
Several months ago I experienced my first problem with WordPress. For some reason I couldn’t publish my post. I thought I had successfully published it. It showed up on my Facebook page but the next day when I didn’t receive any responses from readers I discovered that the post was still in a draft. I don’t know what I did but eventually it was published. I asked for advice and one of my followers suggested that I close all other windows before I push the publish button.
That seemed to work until this week. It took me over an hour to write my post “Mexican Delights”. When I went to post the article it showed up in its entirety on the screen but when I checked it on Facebook only the first two paragraphs were there. None of the photos or links appeared. Fortunately I was able to find it in one of the many drafts that appear below the text box. I saved the draft again and published it a second time.
I can’t tell you how many times I had to do this. I closed all previous windows but that didn’t seem to work. After a couple of hours the post finally published and stayed that way. As much as I love blogging, I don’t have the luxury of that much time to waste on rewriting and reposting my stories.
That’s the main reason I haven’t posted much this week. I was very frustrated from the last experience. So I’m asking again if anyone else has experienced the same problems and how did you resolve it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Cheers!
I don’t think I’ve had any problems yet. I also don’t have much time to devote to blogging now that the university semester is in full swing. I can appreciate your frustration.

I’m feeling the same way now that I’m back to work as well which makes the problem even more frustrating.

WordPress has many positives….but as youre pointing, the negatives are that it comes with some strange bugs at times…..I always write my articles in MS Word first so I have a saved copy because I lost a few articles when I tried to post them as well

I’ve started doing that but it’s usually when I have photos and links that I run into problems.

The only frustrating issue with me was the security dilemma I had. Perhaps you should log out of your account and then shut down your computer for at least 15 seconds to allow the memory to be cleared.
Another suggestion is the same as your friend. When you have too many programs open on your system it uses up the memory. When I post I might have word, the internet brouser and maybe one more. If the problem contiues I found that the tech support are very helpful.
And remember, “Deep Breaths”. 🙂

Maybe you can direct me to the tech support when I see you at work.

No Problem. If you look on the bottom of the Mt Blog page you will see Community and below that Support.

It’s times like that when a good glass of wine would come in handy. Thanks for following my blog. I’m enjoying reading about wine in Australia. Can we get any of the wines you mentioned in your last post here in Canada?

Huh, I’ve read about people having these problems but haven’t ever experienced them myself. Do you type and publish from the website, or do you use the WP app? I’m sorry that you are so frustrated. I’d feel the same way!

I type right in the website. Can I get the WP app on the computer? How is it different from the website?

Just posted a piece and didn’t have any problems. A new version of WordPress is out so maybe there are teething problems. Worth contacting the technical people. I always write my posts in Word then copy and paste. That way if there is a problem, and I have occasionally experienced some, I still have a copy to fall back on. And I file my Word doc with the relevant photos.
I set up another website for my book using WordPress.org and have found that really hard going as much of the stuff on the freebie site you have to find and install. Getting there, but very time consuming, so despite its occasional problems the .com site is really good.

Sorry, to hear about your problems .. and there is nothing mor frustrating as when our online life doesn’t work properly. Had some small problems with WP, but nothing like yours – can have problems with posting my comments for some reason, but it happens only once in while. Not a big issue. I wish I could give you some advice – and I the times I have turned for WP help they have responsed very quickly and been helpful. I hope they will solve your problems quickly. I also write my post in words and paste it over to WP:

Many have told me that they write their posts on Word and then post. Maybe I should do that more often. I think I will also try contacting WP and seeking advice from them.

I’ve only had it happen once. I had stupidly not written that one in Word first – although I often do (but not always). And I was so annoyed…more at myself because I really couldn’t summon the energy or enthusiasm to write the whole post again, so I just abandoned it and moved on when I had a new idea. Frustrating…yes. But I actually didn’t blame WordPress, I blamed myself, because I assumed it was human error and I’d forgotten to save it. Maybe it was (in my case).

Even when I save I often have an old version published or it says it’s published and it’s not. I should start using my Word program. At least that way I haven’t lost everything.

Oh no, hope you get it figured out. I have not had any problem with WordPress, just my computer, which is a whole other issue. Ugh, now I have to go computer shopping. Good luck.
