I always wonder about the story of how these were first named–whether there was really a person named Susan with black eyes and if she knew what fame she’d attain.

I have to admit that it is an unusual name. Maybe there’s a botanist out there that just likes to name flowers after women’s names.

Aha.. to seclusion and freedom from the internet. I need some of that. Just updated to Big Sur and having all sorts of problems…Including no Skype. Always a new thrill.

Black-eyed Susans are the state flower of Maryland, where I live! Such a rich shade of yellow, they have. Beautiful photograph!
