12 Likes and Only 3 Views?…

….how is that even possible?

Today I posted an article about Weber’s in Orillia and almost immediately I started receiving notifications of ‘likes’ for the piece. When I checked my stats, however, the numbers didn’t make sense. The box that displayed which post was read and the number of views for each post showed that ‘Weber’s’ only had three views but received twelve ‘likes’. Can anyone explain to me how that happens?

  1. I’ve wondered this myself ~ At times I’ve wondered if views within wordpress are always counted, or if it’s just unique views from outside clicks that are?
I’d love to know the answer to that as well.
    A wordpress mystery.

  2. If the person just clicks on the like from the reader it doesn’t get counted. They didn’t actually go to your page and look at it. They just pushed the like button from the reader. If they go to your page then it counts. This happens to me all of the time. Some people do it so that they can find it later; in case they don’t have time to read it right now. But most people just do so that you might go to their blog and help increase their stats or maybe sub to them.

    • I thought that might be the reason. I remember reading that pushing the like button from the reader could increase your stats but I stopped doing that because I didn’t want it done to me. It only takes a few seconds to go to someone’s page. I can tell if I’m going to like a post after reading the first few lines and then I’ll finish it before pushing the like button. If I don’t like an article I leave the page and move on. Thanks for the reply.

      • OMG – I didn’t know this…are you positive? I have clicked like in the reader and then gone back into the post at a later date and my gravatar was there… Alot of the blogs I follow are photo not text oriented, some don’t have a like button on the post on their site but do have one on the reader and I figured this was a good way to let the blogger know I had “liked”. If this is not the case it really is problematic. Has anyone followed up on this with WP?
