…..my pottery that is
At my pottery class tonight I trimmed the bowl that I made two weeks ago. I did the trimming on the wheel. It was fun shaving off the excess clay and making the footing for my bowl. It probably doesn’t look much different.
The new project that I worked on was a tall vase. I rolled out a slab and rolled it around the a tube and then attached a bottom and decorated it with stamps. Now it sits and waits to be fired along with all my other projects.
My berry bowl and it’s saucer wait for their first firing and my plate and jar have been fired once and are now glazed and wait for the final firing. I’m most anxious to see how the glazed pieces will look.
Cheers!

This has the ring of patience about it. I tried potting once, when I was young. It was a mess. My mother dabbled in it…she had skill and patience…but not so much flair. I love the thought of it, but fear I am not made to be a potter.

I’m not sure I can call myself a potter but I like the mystery of not knowing exactly how the piece will look until after the firings.

Hope you’ve sussed out where all your pieces are going to go when you bring them home. Perhaps you’ll need to think of opening a gallery.

This is the second time you’ve mentioned this. Have you found yourself in a similar situation? I’m thinking of making an extra large salad bowl for my next project.

I live in a house that is crammed – books, pieces of glass, ornaments and nick-nacks, paintings, plants, excess furniture and furnishings. All accumulated over the years from various houses belonging to us, parents and other family members, much of it with memories so getting rid of it is difficult. And then there is the feeling that it might just come in useful…some day. Added to that is stuff the kids left behind which they say they don’t want, but… Husband is averse to clear-outs. Luckily we have a very large loft (we stay in a converted rural church, built 1843). This has a downside in that it’s too convenient to put stuff up there to be dealt with later. Minimalism isn’t out thing but often I wish the place was tidier!

I hear you. My children have also left things behind which are presently stored in the spare room. They don’t want to or can’t take it away but they also don’t want me to give it away or throw it out.
