One of my favourite flowers. We call them aquilegias although to Shakespeare they were columbines – did Canada retain the old word?

I’ve only ever known this flower as a columbine. I did a little research and here is what Wikipedia says about this pretty flower…..
“The genus name Aquilegia is derived from the Latin word for eagle (aquila), because of the shape of the flower petals, which are said to resemble an eagle’s claw. The common name “columbine” comes from the Latin for “dove”, due to the resemblance of the inverted flower to five doves clustered together.[4]”

I love columbine flowers. I don’t see them very often only in formal gardens. I love the purple color on the beauty one you captured 😀

These were from my daughter’s garden and I have some coming up in my garden. Not sure what colour mine will be.
