When I was young there were lots of dark flowered carb apples in the street. They seem less common now – or maybe people have mistakenly moved on to Japanese Cherrie. But your photo brings back memories.

There are just as many lighter pink blossoms as well and they’re not cherry blossoms. I’m not sure if they’re just another variety of crab apple.
